- The Bicentennial National Trail – runs right through Upper Hunter Country.
- Hike around the lower reaches of Widden Brook and Baerami Creek in Wollemi National Park.
- Hike from Forest Road to Mt Barrington – an undulating walk in the Barrington Tops.
- Walk the 5km track from Youngville Picnic Area to Carrowbrook in Mount Royal National Park

- The Mount Royal Road loop is a good track for fit mountain bikers.
- The Wybong and Giants Creek trails leading from Sandy Hollow to Widden Valley are great family bike rides.

- Burning Mountain guided walk – a short one and a half hour return walk leading to the viewing platform overlooking Burning Mountain.
- Phipps Cutting Picnic Area offers short walks on the outskirts of Wollemi National Park.
- Devils Hole Lookout has a short walk leading to spectacular wilderness views over Barrington Tops

Cool off in the waters of Lake Glenbawn, Lake Liddell and Lake St Clair.
- Boat ramps are available at all lakes. Bring the power boat, sailboard or Jet Ski and enjoy a family day out.
- Hire a canoe at Lake Glenbawn or bring your Kayak to use in the Hunter River or up in the streams of the Barrington Tops.
- Bring the Fishing gear – an abundance of fish is available at Lakes Glenbawn and St Clair. You’ll find top Australian Bass, Golden Perch, Murray Cod, Trout and Catfish hiding in the depths of the waters.

- Unwind at a designated picnic spot such as the Washpools Picnic Area or Paradise Park in Murrurundi,
- Camp at our tourist parks and campgrounds scattered throughout the region
- Look for kangaroos early in the morning roaming the valley flats
- Go birdwatching in the National Parks and look for Turquoise and King Parrots, Kingfishers, Rosellas, Glossy Black Cockatoos, and Wedge-tailed Eagles.
- Sit on the banks of the Hunter River at Moonan Flat to try and spot the platypus playing in the river at dusk.
