Barrington Tops National Park - The World Heritage listed Barrington Tops National Park lies north of Newcastle and between Scone, Dungog and Gloucester. Over 390 species of mammals, birds, reptiles and insects can be found in the wilderness area. The Barrington Tops is also home to a number of threatened species, including the Broad-toothed Rat, Rufous Scrub Bird, Glossy Black Cockatoo, Powerful Owl, Parma Wallaby, Koala, Davies Tree Frog and Yellow Bellied Glider. Towarri National Park - Towarri National Park is only a 20 minute drive from Scone and is a delighted for Bird Watcher's. Powerful Owl's, Yellow-tufted Honeyeater's, Kingfisher's, and Glossy Black Cockatoo's are just some of the species you will find. Goulburn River National Park - The Goulburn River National Park is located west of Muswellbrook, south of Merriwa and east of Mudgee. It is rich in wildlife such as the Eastern Grey Kangaroo's, wombat's, Rednecked Wallabie's and wallaroo's, goanna's and Bearded Dragon's. It's water shelters the Long-necked Turtle, shrimo, catfish and mullet and as well as platypus. Mount Royal National Park - Adjoining the south western edge of the Barrington Tops is Mount Royal National Park and is easily accessible via Singleton. This unique wilderness area is home to rare and threatened wildlife such as the Hasting River Mouse. | Paradise Park - Paradise Park is home to many different types of wildlife. They have an abundance of bird's and you will often spot a wombat or two. Burning Mountain Nature Reserve - Located between Wingen and Murrurundi. This Nature Reserve is a great walk through wildlife and is great for bird watcher's and is great for the chance to see a kangaroo.

Wollemi National Park - New South Wales largest wilderness area, Wollemi National Park is home to a rich variety of diverse species, such as Eastern Grey Kangaroo's, wombat's, echidna's, glider's, gecko's and a variety of snakes exist in the parks. Lake St Clair - Lake St Clair is a popular place for fishing with the water housing such species as Australian Bass and Golden and Silver Perch.

Lake Liddell - Located between Muswellbrook and Singleton, Lake Liddell is home to many different forms of bird life. A common ground for Migratiry birds. Lake Liddell offers a great viewing deck so that you can witness bird's such as Black Swan's and pelicans in their natural habitat. You will also see kangaroo's and wallabie's grazing around the lake. A great stop just off the New England Highway, look for the Lake Liddell signposts.

| Lake Glenbawn State Recreational Area - Lake Glenbawn is about 15 kilometres east of Scone nestled in the shadows of the Barrington Tops National Park. Nature lovers and bushwalkers appreciate the open woodland environment of the park, which provides plenty of shady areas and a habitat for about 100 species of bird's, including the magnificent native Wedgetailed Eagle and Australian Kestrel. Water birds are also abundant. Lake Glenbawn is also one of the best freshwater fishing spots in New South Wales with Golden Perch (Yellow Belly), Bass, catfish, Murray Cod being amongst the catches.
