Wingen is a little village half way between Murrurundi and Scone on the New England Highway.
Wingen is known for the local "Burning Mountain" tourist attraction, a burning underground coal seam.
Things to do:
- Do as the bullock teams did in earlier times on their days journey between Scone and Murrurundi and make the Durham Hotel the resting place for lunch.
- Visit the Burning Mountain Nature Reserve.
- Make the short trip to Towarri National Park and the Washpools.
- Keep watch for some interesting old homesteads as you drive around the locality.
Burning Mountain Nature Reserve is located on the New England Highway about 2 km north of Wingen. The well-signposted walk to the summit takes around an hour at a leisurely pace.
