The Cottage Restaurant Scone recognised as one of the best steak venues in the country.

The 2017 Savour Australia™ Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS National Awards for Excellence were held in Melbourne on Monday night at Docklands Peninsula, celebrating the achievements of Australia’s finest hospitality businesses.

The Cottage restaurant in Scone was awarded the Bronze Award in the category of Best National Steak Venue 2017. With Prime Restaurant, Sydney taking home the Gold and San Telmo, Melbourne the Silver.

Cafés, restaurants and catering businesses demonstrating exceptional service, culinary excellence and value for money were recognised at the event across 41 different categories. With over 43,000 cafés, restaurants and catering businesses in Australia these awards recognise the best of the best.

The award winners from each category are decided by anonymous judges trained in the rigorous Restaurant and Catering Evaluation System (RACES) program. With over sixty individual criteria judged the scores are based on the entire dining experience from food to customer service. 

Business owner and Restaurant & Catering Australia (R&CA) member Colin Selwood says “We have achieved something great here. Owning a restaurant is tough, then you add the additional degree of difficulty with a regional location and you have the recipe for a challenging work day! It’s great to be recognised by the industry. It makes all our hard work worthwhile. I have a great team (and town) behind me and these awards acknowledge that.”

Colin says “I am passionate about the food we put on the plate and it’s great to see others are enjoying it too. We source some of the countries finest grass fed beef and then dry aged on site ensuring we have complete control over the end product that is served in the restaurant 6 weeks later.”

Restaurant & Catering (R&CA) CEO Juliana Payne congratulated each of the National Award winners on behalf of the Association, praising their individual contributions to Australia’s hospitality industry. “The winners of this year’s Awards, both at a national and a state level, have each demonstrated sustained excellence in their craft which we are delighted to recognise here tonight. The enormous hard work, dedication and passion of these business-owners and their staff is what makes Australia’s hospitality industry up there with the best in the world. This is reflected in the fact that domestic and international tourists consistently rank dining out as one of their most preferred activities whilst on holiday.”

Earlier this year The Cottage also took home the 2017 NSW Consumer Vote (Northern) Award proving that they are not only popular with the judges but also the public.
